The portable multipurpose instruments that are included into POLISMART™ IRCS consist of two main modules: independent intellectual radiation detector unit and the unit for processing, displaying and transmission of the information to the decision support system. The instrument may include the detectors of different sensitivity for measurement, search for and identification of gamma and neutron radiation sources. The different models of smart phones or Pocket PC can be used as the unit for processing, displaying and transmission of the information. |

Each instrument incorporated into the POLISMART™ IRCS can be used as independent equipment for performing the procedures of radiation control process and it may operate as system instrument having communication with the DSS.

The detector units for the instruments of the POLISMART™ system are developed by POLIMASTER company which is one of the leading world manufacturers of pocketsize and hand-held radiation control instruments. The primary processing of the pulses coming from the detectors are performed by the microprocessor system of the detector unit sending the ready signal to the processing unit for further analysis.
The Mio 8380 (or other smart phones model supporting Windows Mobile, for example Motorola MPx200 or Samsung SV400 (CDMA) as well as Pocket PC with GPRS) are used as regular device of the processor unit in the POLISMART™ instruments. The smart phone is equipped with the built-in video camera and it allows connecting other standard devices necessary for the specialists when accomplishing the tasks of radiation control, for example GPS module.
The way the smart phone is attached to the detector unit is very convenient from the point of view of design. The smart phone is detachable thus depending on the task to be accomplished it is possible to use several detectors with one smart phone. Second advantage of the system with such design of the processing unit is a possibility to use standard channels for transmitting video, audio information and data, supported by the operators of wireless networks, such as GSM, GPRS/GPRSII thus making it possible to be constantly on-line with the specialists (experts, persons responsible for performing the radiation control procedures and making decision, etc) to file the actions of the operator automatically, to ensure expert support in each specific case, to work in real time with departmental and national crisis centers. |
